2009 ISDRA Meeting

Now out in the Sault St. Marie, Michigan, attending the ISDRA Meeting where Johnn got his silver medal for the 3 Dog SkiJor class. Since we missed the Dittmar wedding, I promised I would drive us to the ISDRA meeting.  A great party, and of course, good seminars and lots of dog talk.

Johnn’s doing very well - his goal was to ditch the cane before this meeting, and he did that. A long nap yesterday afternoon, and he was able to stay up for the now mandatory after-party. I need to brag that I made it to the final round of the most competitive, adult version of musical chairs ever played.  Lots of fun !!

We visited with the Cheziks on the way out and met our new puppy - he’s in the car now, crated with Max. He slept last night with JJ.  Tentative name is Walter - now nick-named Wally.

Heading home this afternoon - Johnn starts back to work Monday - just will need to schedule some rest time.

Good medical news !

Finally some medical news and it’s good . Johnn’s 24 hour EEG came back fine and he is cleared to go back to work and to drive. Technically, the PA DMV could technically still revoke his license for 6 months, but that’s not what the doctor is recommening.

Meanwhile, he has ditched the cane, started spinning at home for exercise, and completed three sleds. Life is returning to normal, although a slower pace (read closer to normal) will be pushed by all of us knowing Johnn.

Progressing

Johnn’s progressing well physically - almost ready to ditch the cane. However, we are being VERY, VERY frustrated with the docs. Getting any answers on how long restrictions will be in place, what to expect, etc are just not forth-coming.

On the positive side, Johnn started building a Rising Star yesterday. He stopped quite a few times to rest and will probably finish it today - a real positive start.

We’ve decided to go ahead and attend the International Sled Dog Racing Association’s meeting in Sault Ste. Marie, MI next weekend. I’ll drive .  We’ll be stopping at the Chezik kennel in MI and picking up a puppy.

Work & Life Interrupted

Life as we know, was abruptly interrupted late Monday (June 8th) night when Johnn fell and suffered a seizure following a severe asthma attack.  Several days in the hospital, a medication that made him worse, then finally the right medication , and he’s home now (Saturday, June 13th).

It will be some time till he’s allowed in the wood shop - however he’s already progressed from a walker to a cane. We expect he’ll be back to normal in a few weeks and back to sled work -but he’s not allowed near power equipment yet.

I did set a plastic chair in the kennel today, and let dogs loose one at a time to visit him. Dog man - therapy.
